Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drive through Device Manager. Also check your drivers by googling your Laptop model for updated drivers. Other than that, it's kinda tough to tell without seeing it. Good luck.

Apparently the driver is up to date, but to be sure I did uninstall/reinstall the device. No change.

The underlying question I have is this - how come it plays some CDs and not others? And, second question, how come it no longer plays a CD it did play before? Questions, questions.

The tin foil part of me says that the CDs may have been encoded with an executable script that prevents them from being played on a platform with Read/Write capability and for some reason only now is the script running.

Have you recently installed or upgraded the PC with Roxio or some other kind of CD Read/Write software?

I had the same problem several years ago with a fantastic Leftover Salmon CD and the best version of Whispering Waters they ever performed. It plays like a champ in my car and on an old desktop workstation, but when I got a new PC it no longer played.

I am clearly NO help on this issue, but isn't it bizarre how the car players ALL seem to come thru for us? My wife used to give me the "look" when running/waddling back & forth to the garage, but now I see that many Forumites engage in this behavior, eh?

Perhaps she'll be comforted to know...?
